My organ builder friend Tim Hemry (who built my house organ) forwarded this video to me. It is astonishing: Olivier Messiaen’s “Dieu parmi nous” from “La Nativité” played…. yes, on the accordion. (For those of you who don’t know the piece, it was originally written for organ—that is, two hands, two feet—and is one of the most difficult pieces in the organ repertoire; a masterpiece.)
If you’d like a more traditional rendition of the piece, here’s Naji Hakim, Messiaen’s successor at La Trinité in Paris, playing the Trinité organ for which “Dieu parmi nous” was written.
