Gary Larson’s Oeuvres Completes

Today we received at the library (at my casual request, so they were delivered to me after they were cataloged) the massive two-volume set of the complete The Far Side cartoons from 1980-1994. (Andews McMeel Publishing) These two volumes contain every cartoon Gary Larson drew for the comic until he stopped in 1994. Each of the volumes weighs twice as much as a volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica. Don’t carry these volumes around if you have a weak back. One at a time is enough. But there they all are, all our favorites: dancing cows, insects doing nasty things, pythons at home, crazy-looking people feigning death to get their guests to leave. The question for all time: how did he come up with this stuff?
